The wedding day was nothing short of magical—sunlight streamed through delicate curtains, mingling with the sound of joyful laughter, lively music, and heartfelt congratulations from every corner of the room. I was floating on a cloud of happiness, ready to pledge my love to the man I had dreamed about for years. But just as the celebration reached its peak, a shadow fell over my perfect day. My fiancé’s brother appeared beside me, his expression grim and voice low.
“I need to tell you something… something urgent,” he murmured, his eyes darting as if afraid to be overheard.
A sudden chill ran down my spine, freezing the warmth that had filled me moments before.
“What is it? Is everything okay?” I whispered, trying to keep my voice steady.
He glanced furtively around the bustling room before leaning closer.
“Not here. Meet me in the restroom in five minutes. Please, don’t say a word to my brother.”
My heart clenched in confusion and dread.
“What do you mean? What’s going on?”
He simply nodded once and walked away without another word.
The next five minutes stretched like hours. My pulse thundered in my ears, my hands slick with nervous sweat. Mustering a fragile smile, I told my fiancé I needed a moment alone and slipped away toward the restroom, my thoughts racing.
Inside, the fluorescent lights hummed softly. He was already there, leaning against the sink, looking lost and vulnerable. Silence hung between us, heavy and suffocating, until he finally broke it with a voice that trembled with raw emotion.
“I can’t keep this inside any longer,” he confessed, eyes searching mine. “I’ve been in love with you for a very long time.”
I froze, disbelief flooding every nerve. A nervous, hollow laugh escaped me before I could stop it.
“You must be joking,” I said, swallowing hard. “I’m marrying your brother today.”
His hands clenched into fists. “I know. But seeing you with him… it’s tearing me apart.”
I shook my head, the edges of panic creeping in.
“No, this can’t be happening. It’s all wrong.”
Suddenly, he stepped forward and tried to pull me into an embrace. Panic surged through me—I shoved him away fiercely and slapped him across the face.
“Don’t ever touch me again!” I cried, tears pricking my eyes as I fled into the hallway, my heart shattering with each breath.
Now, every time our eyes accidentally meet, a cold wave of nausea sweeps over me. I can barely stand to look at him—and the heavy secret of that day still gnaws at my soul. Should I tell my husband the truth? Or bury the memory deep and pray it never surfaces again? The weight of this hidden betrayal lingers like a dark storm on the horizon of what should be the happiest chapter of my life.
